External Outreach
LALSA maintains strong ties to the other Latino organizations on the greater Penn campus and in Philadelphia, including the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania (HBA-PA).
At Penn
By collaborating with and publicizing the events of Penn’s La Casa Latina, the Intercultural Center, and Wharton's WHAMBAA and WLASA, Penn LALSA supports wide-reaching student engagement at Penn. Our annual conference and many other events welcome students from across Penn's graduate programs, and our members participate with those groups wherever possible.
In 2016-17, LALSA was a co-sponsor to the Wharton Latin America Weekend Conference, where LALSA alumni spoke, and to the Brazil Undergraduate Student Conference, in addition to a Wharton/Law happy hour and other collaborations across the university.
In Philadelphia
The Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania is a valuable partner to Penn LALSA. The organization connects our students with Latino attorneys and judges locally, regionally, and nationally - offering even more opportunities to network, learn, and serve the Latino community. HBA members have acted as supervising attorneys for LALSA pro bono work, attend and support our conference, and are a critical resource for all Penn LALSA students.
The HBA sponsors student attendance at their various receptions and has its own scholarship fund that is often generous with our members.
Nationally
Each year, LALSA sponsors one member to represent the organization, build professional contacts, and connect with alumni at the Hispanic National Bar Association Conference. LALSA was happy to send Ignacio Celis-Aguirre, our 2016-17 Conference Chair, as our representative to the March 2017 conference in Miami.
